The Region's letters to Government

In Foucs: Women's Rights

Baroness Helena Kennedy spoke about the right of women in the British legal system.

At the London and SE Region AGM, Baroness Helena Kennedy spoke about how justice seemed to be compromised in the British legal system because of different expectations imposed on male vs female plaintiffs.

In her book, Eve was Framed: Women and British Justice, she argued that justice is compromised because, too often, the people who are caught up in an already flawed legal process are judged on grounds that have nothing to do with the facts of their cases.

Baroness Kennedy also spoke about the silent suffering of women as victims of domestic violence, and of human trafficking.

She urged for radical changes in public attitude to women, to make violence totally unacceptable. A key role could be played by a campaign of education, to achieve a humane and just society.
