In Foucs: Human Rights

Westminster and Twickenham & Richmond branches events in May focused on Human Rights.

In a meeting on 10 May hosted by the new UCL Faculty of Law, Westminster branch asked "Who deserves to be on the UN Human Rights Council?" Speakers - Liesl Gertholtz (Human Rights Watch), Martha Baker (WILPF), Mrs Subhashini (Indian High Commission), Akin Oyateru (Nigeria High Commission) - discuss the structure of the HRC and India and Nigeria's record in women's right.

Twickenham and Richmond branch, alongside the Mayor of Richmond and Amnesty International, unveiled the monument to mark the 60th anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights on 18 May.

The branch was one of the project founders. Its Chair was instrumental in securing Council support and funding.

The work can be seen outside the main entrance to the civic centre, 44 York Street, Twickenham, TW1 3BZ. [more]
